    Captain Maurice L. Markey, an attorney before the war, attended the Army Medical Administrative Corps school at Carlisle Barracks and served from 1943-1945 as the adjutant to the Commanding General of Thayer Army General Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. In the months after VJ Day, before being discharged, he served in the Judge Advocate General Corps, facilitating the massive program of discharging soldiers back to civilian life. After the war, he returned to the practice of law in Milwaukee, and later joined the City Attorney's office. He served as the chief appellate attorney for the city of Milwaukee as well as principal legal advisor to the mayor and city council.
