Jewish Historical Society Receives Governor’s Award

At the Milwaukee Jewish Federation’s November 29th Board Meeting, Marianne Lubar, Chair, and Michael Green, Website Committee Chair, Jewish Historical Society, accepted the 2005 Governor’s Archival Innovation Award in recognition of its website. The award was presented by Peter Gottlieb, State Archivist, who said that the judges had found the “website most impressive, especially in view of how recently it has been developed.” He said, “Few organizations have done as much in using the Internet to share information about historical records, in a very engaging way.”

Award criteria required the use of fresh technologies for disseminating information about historical records, particularly for new and diverse audiences. The award criteria also called for creative approaches that raise awareness and appreciation of historical records pertinent to Wisconsin’s cultural heritage.

Marianne Lubar noted in expressing pleasure with the award that “Michael Green and his Website committee did a phenomenal job in creating a beautiful, interesting and easy site to navigate. We think it is of continuing interest because we are constantly changing and adding information to the site. It’s extremely gratifying to be acknowledged by the State Historical Society and by the Governor.”
